This lesson helps learners see that confidence is not something that “just happens” to them. It is something they can influence by the way they think, decide and act.

Key points to cover:

  1. From victim to owner

    • “Victim mode”:

      • “There is nothing I can do.”

      • “Other people decide how confident I feel.”

    • “Owner mode”:

      • “I cannot control everything, but I can control my response.”

      • “I choose how I practise and how I speak to myself.”

  2. Ownership is not blame

    • Taking ownership does not mean blaming yourself for everything.

    • It means asking:

      • “What part of this situation can I influence?”

      • “What is one choice I can make differently next time?”

  3. Choices that shape confidence
    Examples:

    • Choosing to try instead of avoiding

    • Choosing to practise instead of complaining

    • Choosing kinder self talk instead of constant self attack

    • Choosing to ask for help instead of giving up

  4. Reflection activity
Ask learners to write about a recent situation where they said:

    • “I can’t” or “There is nothing I can do.”
Then ask them to rewrite that situation using ownership:

    • “I cannot change X, but I can still do A, B or C
